Pullman Car Hiawatha is a one-act play by Thorton Wilder, considered to be the precursor and first draft of his iconic celebrated work, “Our Town.” In this 35 minute dance-theatre work, the transcendental and phenomenological themes of the text are abstracted and developed into full bodied, visceral and kinetic structures. A female-only cast of virtuosic performers who both speak and dance throughout invite us into a world of both specificity and liminal metaphorical space. By challenging the viewer to engage in both concrete and subtextual meanings simultaneously, the work generates a three-dimensional focus on both our personal stories and the larger context of our lives.
